(Philippines) The Salary Standardization Law III is still pending in congress and i can’t wait for it to happen. This law will increase the salary of goverment nurses, doctors and other medical personnel ranging from 34 up to 69 percent starting next year.
I was happy to hear about this but then i realized that an increase in salary will also result to an increase in tax. I appreciate the fact that our government is doing this to lessen the numbers of nurses who go abroad to work. But if compared, salaries abroad is still higher. I will surely keep track on what will happen to this issue

I went to Professional Regulation Commision (PRC) yesterday to get my board certificate. The view there haven’t changed, except for some renovations. As I walk towards window 19 i sighted the place still crowded, people fall in long lines, and the smell is still the same (lol). I smiled after seeing that nobody is falling in line to window 19, then I gave the photocopy of my license card. Then I waited, then finally i got my precious and long awaited board certificate! (i’m a june 2007 passer, just think of how long i’ve waited.. Then I was instructed to have my certificate stamped then after that I have to go back. So I did what she said, I proceeded to where the metered stamp is. It still costs 21php even though the stamp reads 15php (i’m still wondering about it till now). We went back to window 19 then the woman took back our certificate and pasted the gold thingy (hehe) then sealed it. She handed it back to me in a brown envelope. And its done! Not that hard ayt?
I hate it when it rains! Why? Because of the putik (mud) that stains my shoes. It makes me look untidy! Nurses always wear white shoes and it is really hard to keep it clean. Whether your a nurse or not as long as you have white shoes these tips can help you.
10. As much as possible avoid walking on wet grass or in mud because it will stain your shoes.
9. Use spray paint on your shoes. Some of my collegues use it to make their shoes appear brand new but after some time, cracks developed and gosh it looked awful! I suggest that do this only if you can’t find any white shoe except your super old yellowish filthy shoe. After using spray paint, i bet your shoe will look nice for about a week. Lol
8. There was a time that i arrived in the hospital with a mud stain on my shoe. I saw the cotton balls with alcohol in the ward and used it to remove the stain.
7. A dishwashing liquid could also be used as a quick clean up.
6. The popular brand of shoe polish has this so-called shoe protectant that looks like wax in a thin circle tin container. It protects the coating of your shoe and makes it easy to be wiped clean.
5. Back to basic. Soap and a soft cloth is a good way to clean your shoe.
4. A tissue is handy. Use it to wipe your shoe everytime it is stained. Don’t wait for the stain to stay longer for it will be hard to remove then.
3. Wet ones/Baby wipes are must haves. Everytime i go out i always have it in my bag. I use it to clean almost anything and that includes my shoe and it works great.
2. The white liquid shoe polish is another great way to keep your shoe white. It makes your shoe look new. Just don’t put too much or your shoe would end up looking cakey.
1. The best way is to use your shoes in hospital only. Put it on your locker and use another pair when travelling. This will keep your shoe from all the stain and dirt and will lengthen the life of your shoe.
My training in hospital X is finished and i’ll just have to wait for their call if when will be my 1st day in work (as a staff nurse). On the other hand, i’m waiting for the call of hospital Y for the schedule of my training (for employment again). I’m so confused right now. I don’t know which hospital would i be in.
Hospital X is a tertiary hospital with 150 bed capacity. It is located in San Juan which is by the way far from our house. They offer a low salary yet with a demanding job. Their normal working shift is 12hours. But i’m definitely will be hired there.
Hospital Y is also a tertiary hospital located in E.Rodriguez Avenue Quezon, City. They offer a minimum salary but with lots of benefits. This hospital is also well-known compared to hospital X and it is nearer to our house than hospital X. But the thing is, i am still waiting for their call and i still have to undergo 1month training after which i have to pass the evaluation exam and an interview with the Vice President of Medical Affairs. In short, it is not definite if i would get hired there.
I have to think and pray hard for me to know which way to go. Wish me luck guyz!
I’ve been a RN for about a year yet i am still for final evaluation at hospital X (today is our evaluation). Landing a job as a nurse is so hard because of a tight competition. There are 400,000 jobless registered nurses today (that is according to PRC) and only 60,000 registered nurses are employed in both public and private sectors.
The demand for nurses decreases as the supply increases. Our government must act now over this problem. A lot of nursing schools have been established and courses like Practical Nursing becomes popular. RNs are having a hard time finding a job, what more would it be for practical nurses?
On the other side, hospitals are taking advantage of the nurse surplus. They ask for a fee in entrance exam and in trainings that range from 1,500php to 10,000php.
This is really a head aching problem!!
When i’ve read the blog topic ah, the shock of role transition i realized that being a newbie nurse isn’t that so bad after all. The errors becomes a lesson learned and mistakes turns into an experience gained.
Whenever i saw a hair dresser, a manicurist, or worst, a yaya wearing a scrub suit, i can’t help but get irritated. Why? Because i don’t get the point why do they have to use scrub suit as their uniforms!
A Scrub Suit is composed of a v-neck shirt and a pants, made of a light weight cotton worn by hospital staffs specially in a sterile unit. It is usually worn in operating room, intensive care unit, or areas of the same kind, to at least maintain the sterility of the area. Patients in the said areas are most likely to acquire communicable diseases and wearing a scrub suit lessens the probability of nosocomial diseases.
I really don’t get it, why some of the yaya’s are wearing scrub suits! Argh.. Please.. I mean, just like in cops, they have this uniform that only cops can wear, same thing goes with astronauts, so scrub suits should be for hospital staffs only. I think there must be a law for it. In a way, it insults all the health professionals including us nurses.
